I remember receiving this magazine at home when I was in seventh grade and being ELATED. I must have read the Spice Girls article and looked at the pictures a million times. I was just so awestruck that a high-fashion magazine like Vogue would put such a mainstream/pop act on their cover, that I devoured it. I remember the writer was a bit snarky, and wasn’t too thrilled to be interviewing the Spice Girls. I believe she said that none of them had particularly good voices, but that Mel C. was probably the best, although she was a bit of a screamer. She also said that Mel B. was the most naturally pretty.
My junior high response to that reporter was whatever! (complete with the patented Clueless hand gesture). My current response to that reporter is still whatever! (this time without the hand gesture). How could someone not be exited to interview the Spice Girls?! I mean, maybe she didn’t buy the lollipops and collect the stickers that came with them in her Hello Kitty sticker book, but I did, and I would have loved an article from someone who was as stoked to write it as I was to read it.
